Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) and Mental Health services
Hope Foundation provides integrated Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) and Mental Health services for Rohingya refugees and surrounding host communities through facility-based care and community outreach.
The program focuses on early detection, treatment, counseling, and long-term follow-up to ensure continuity of care for people living with chronic diseases and mental health conditions.
Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Care
The program addresses major chronic illnesses that are increasingly affecting vulnerable populations. Key conditions managed include:
• Hypertension (HTN)
• Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Asthma
Patients receive screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care at HOPE Field Hospital. Community Health Facilitators (CHF) and Community Health Volunteers (CHV) support early identification of patients, community awareness, and follow-up monitoring.
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
Mental health services are integrated into primary healthcare and community outreach. The program provides:
• Mental health counseling and psychosocial support
• Clinical management by trained mhGAP doctors
• Specialist consultation with psychiatrists for complex cases
• Problem Management Plus (PM+) sessions for individuals experiencing stress, depression, and anxiety
• Psychological First Aid (PFA) for individuals affected by distressing events and crisis situations
• Community-based follow-up and support for patients and families
This approach ensures timely access to mental health care and strengthens community resilience.
Hospital Care and Admissions
Patients requiring additional medical attention are admitted to HOPE Field Hospital, where comprehensive care is provided for:
• NCD-related complications
• Maternity and delivery services
• Infectious diseases
• Special Care Newborn Unit (SCANU) services
• Pediatric conditions
Community Outreach and Follow-up
A strong outreach system ensures that patients remain connected to care beyond the health facility. Key activities include:
• Community screening for NCD and mental health conditions
• Counseling by Community Health Facilitators (CHF) and Community Health Volunteers (CHV)
• Referral of patients to HOPE Field Hospital for diagnosis and treatment
• Issuance of NCD patient books for treatment tracking
• Door-to-door visits for counseling and adherence support
• Peer support groups for NCD and mental health patients
• Community engagement through meetings with Majhi (community leaders) and Imams
Through this integrated facility- and community-based model, Hope Foundation improves access to essential NCD and mental health services and supports healthier, more resilient communities in Cox’s Bazar.
