Words from Sujan Ali:

Jamal Uddin Ali, a beloved brother, father, son and friend lost his life on April 10, 2020 from complications due to Covid-19 at the age of 45 years old.  Jamal was a beam of light in our lives. 

 

Motivated and a risk-taker, he genuinely enjoyed helping others fulfill their goals.  In his short but meaningful life, he made an impact by elevating himself and those around him. Jamal was keen on helping those less fortunate than him. If he had, he would give. This was Jamal.  

 

This has been an extremely difficult year for our family but also the world at large as the Covid-19 virus continues to affect each of us in varying ways.  A few months ago, as the one year anniversary of Jamal’s death was approaching, I felt that we could, perhaps, honour his life, by giving back.  

 

I came across Hope Foundation for Women & Children of Bangladesh by chance. As I started researching, I discovered that the organization is monumental in helping marginalized women in Bangladesh receive maternal care. 

 

Communicating directly with the Founder, Dr. Iftikher Mahmood, and working with their wonderful staff, I was moved by their kindness and support.  As Jamal was born in Bangladesh, it feels fitting to support an organization that is helping women deliver safely in Bangladesh and providing them with access to the maternal care they require, especially as many of these women are impacted by Covid-19.  It feels right that his passing may help with the birth of new life.  

 

My hope with this fundraiser is that the tears we have shed for our lost one can help water the gardens of others in need.  I hope you can help me on this journey.

- Support the HOPE COVID-19 Unit in the Rohingya Refugee Camps to provide SAFE deliveries/births for those mothers with COVID-19 symptoms.

 

The rapid spread of COVID-19 put the world on edge, for good reason. 

 

Organizations like HOPE Foundation, which are already deeply rooted in local communities, are in the best position to provide immediate and long-term support for survivors of outbreaks and other crises. 

 

Our long-term work in southern Bangladesh has positioned us as a leader in providing consistent, high-quality medical care to those in need. Strategically located within the camp population, our 24-hour facility has increased access to care for hundreds of thousands of refugees, significantly reducing their travel time to reach medical help. Also, this hospital provides services to the host community living in the catchment area, helping minimize the spread of viruses.

 

COVID-19 presents a wholly unique challenge in a refugee camp setting, not only for the refugees but for the host community of Cox’s Bazar as well. The extremely vulnerable population we serve lives in very close contact with each other, and there is simply nowhere else they can go. 

 

HOPE has moved quickly to organize, communicate and deliver treatment in these difficult times of global pandemic, contributing into controlling the spread of the virus and the suffering of many sick people.

 

HOPE established a 50-bed Isolation and Treatment Unit to take care of COVID-19 patients.

The funds collected in this fundraiser will go to support the COVID-19 Unit activities. This Unit is providing 24/7 free-of-charge medical services in the Rohingya Refugee Camps. Furthermore, this is the only health facility open to receive obstetric emergencies, such as obstructed labor, in the entire camps where over one million people live.

• 1,000 USD will buy life-saving medications for refugees at the HOPE Field Hospital for Women
   

• 500 USD will pay for a emergency C-section, postpartum and newborn care for suspected or positive COVID  patients (all inclusive) 
   

• 200 USD will support a SAFE normal delivery for Covid positive or suspected patients, postpartum and newborn care.
   

• 100 USD will cover four antenatal care visits , ultrasound examination, labs and prenatal vitamins 
   

• 50 USD helps with basic needs items for baby and mother (food, soap, water purification pills and medicine)
   

• 25 USD for prenatal vitamins to pregnant women
